Outstanding Employee: Mike Turner

Mike Turner has been chosen, by his peers, to be our Outstanding Employee at Thriftway Supermarket! Mike has worked at Thriftway, in the Meat Department, since Nov. 6, 2000. Mike has a special talent for making summer sausage, curing bacon, smoked meats and other specialty items that are sold in the Meat Department and are very popular with Thriftway’s customers. Mike’s hard working, careful and steady work habits are a true benefit to his Department as well a the entire store. We are very fortunate to have Mike be a part of our Thriftway Team! Donation: Cross Country Team

Bob and Norma Lee Campbell, co-owners of Thriftway Supermarket, were pleased to be able to present a check for $400 to Tim and Suann Bower, for the Linn R-II Cross Country Team. Kevin Ousley, Grocery Manager at Thriftway, also in the picture, helped put together a program in conjunction with Coca Cola, to make this donation possible. Thriftway donated a percent of the price of every bottle of Powerade that was purchased at Thriftway to the Cross Country Team.

Linda Grellner has been chosen to be our Outstanding Employee at Thriftway, due to the fact that she is hard working, dedicated to her job, agreeable, a pleasure to work with and an inspiration to all of us!

Linda is skilled in numerous departments including the Bakery, Deli and Floral Departments. She also regularly works in the Maintenance Department, helping to keep our store clean. Congratulations Linda, and thank you for being a very valuable asset to Thriftway!

New Cooler Cases

The month of January, 2013 brought several improvements at Thriftway. New cooler cases were installed in three departments. These cases will allow us to offer even more product and keep our product even cooler. The cases are located in the Smoked Meat Department, Dairy Department and Beer and Beverage Department. We hope you will be pleased with our improvements!

Becky has held numerous positions at Thriftway during her 39 years of service at Thriftway and has been a very conscientious employee while working at each position. Becky has been a very valuable asset to the store.

“I have been employed at Thriftway Supermarket for 39 years. I married Chuck Monroe in 1968 and we have been blessed with four daughters. Monica Ferguson and husband Dennis of Saint Louis, Angie Lee and husband Jim of Linn, Carol Lage and husband Gerry of California, Mo. and Jeanna Lansford and husband Nick of Linn. I also have 11 grandchildren: Chad Lee, Lucas and Erin Lee, Chance and Jess Lee, Ethan Lee, Emma Lee, Brooke Lage, Bailey Lage, Dylan Lage and Adrienne Lansford and two great grandchildren, Cody Mosley and Kamrya Lee. I love cutting grass, gardening, working in my flower gardens and especially enjoy cooking and helping others in need. I am very caring and devoted to my work and family.

I have loved every moment of my employment with Thriftway from being a checker to stocking to carry out to Bakery Manager to meat wrapper. I have loved every moment and all of the experiences throughout the past years. I love saying a few words to the wonderful customers and helping each and every one who needs assistance in any way while shopping.
I want to thank Bob and Norma Lee Campbell for this opportunity and the appreciation throughout the years of my service of Thriftway. It has been a great experience and I hope for many more. I also want to thank all of my coworkers.”

Stacey Bonnot has been chosen, by his peers, to be an Outstanding Employee at Thriftway Supermarket! Stacey has worked diligently at Thriftway, in the meat department, since May 1999. He has always been very pleasant and helpful with Thriftway’s customers as well as his fellow workers. Stacey takes pride in the job that he does and makes sure the meat department always looks clean and well-stocked. Stacey goes the extra mile in that he offers helpful suggestions for improvements throughout the store, which we heartily welcome. He is willing to reach out beyond his department and occasionally helps with things in other departments. Stacey is a definite asset to Thriftway! Thank you, Stacey!

Osage County Food Service Training, Part 2

Food service trainingSix more Thriftway employees attended the Osage County Food Service Employee Training Class March 22, at the Osage County Administration Building in Linn. This class is designed to help food service employees at all levels understand their role and responsibilities in providing food to the public. Those attending this class were Mike Turner,
meat department, Kevin Ousley, grocery manager and assistant manager of Thriftway, Stacey Bonnot, meat department and Rae Jene Mantle, deli and bakery department.
Also attending the class but not pictured are Jean Marie Shoults, deli department and checker and David Abernathy, produce department. Thriftway employees take their jobs very seriously and it is very important to all of us at Thriftway to continue to handle our products safely, for you, our valued customers!

Osage County Food Service Training

Five Thriftway employees attended the Osage County Food Service Employee Training Class March 15, 2011, at the Osage County Administration Building basement. This class is designed to help food service employees at all levels understand their role and responsibilities in providing food to the public. Those attending the class were: Becky Monroe, Bakery Manager, Bruce Bax, Meat Manager, Mike Troesser, Produce Manager, Mike Rackers, Frozen and Dairy and Liquor Manager and also Assistant Manager of Thriftway, and Debby Jaegers, Deli Manager.

There are many important rules governing the handling of food and it is immensely important to all of us at Thriftway that we continue to handle our products safely. Several years ago, Bruce Bax, Debby Jaegers, Nancy Ketcherside and Jean Shoults received ServSafe Certificates for successfully completing a class which set forth standards by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation for the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Examination, which is recognized by the Conference for Food Protection. It is of upmost importance to us at Thriftway to do our very best, in every way possible, to take excellent care of you, our valued customers!

David Abernathy has worked in the produce department since March 2002 and is very conscientious about his job and responsibilities. He is quick to help our customers and ventures past his department to offer helpful suggestions for the entire store. David and Kayla recently had a precious baby girl. We are very fortunate to have David be a part of our Thriftway team! Congratulations, David!

Derek Mengwasser has worked as a stocker and carry out person since July 2009. Derek not only is a very hard worker, he is also a very polite and friendly young man. He realizes that Customer Service is one of our first priorities at Thriftway. Derek is the son of Fred and Diane Mengwasser. Derek is taking classes at Lincoln University with the goal of obtaining a degree. Derek is an asset to our Thriftway team! Congratuations, Derek!

ASAP kicks off Tuesday to fight illiteracy

Adult Skills Advancement Program Learning FairStory reproduced from April 7th’s Unterrified Democrat In an effort to fight illiteracy in Osage County, a new program, Adult Skills Advancement Program (ASAP), will be introduced at a Learning Fair Tuesday at the Thriftway parking lot in Linn.
ASAP makes it possible for residents to improve reading skills, computer skills, become proficient on popular office software, study and prepare for a GED, or to learn to use a computer.
Members of the ASAP team include Mark Schaeffer, Ronda Thompson, Rhonda Voss, Jennie Ames, Larry Hunt, Rep. Tom Loehner, Vicki Gravedoni, and Charlotte Bellsmith, as well as other local residents.
The team has been working together since last fall to address the literacy needs of Osage County.
The plan for the event is to present all the educational opportunities that are available to adult residents here in Osage County.
Tuesday’s event will include a computer lab that will be set up for tours, training and viewing (and something that will be a regular part of the educational experience here in Osage), the Missouri River Regional Library Bookmobile, enabling everyone to apply for a library card as well as all the organizations and groups that offer educational experiences here in Osage County, or the surrounding area if available to our residents. There will be prize drawings, a pork burger sale put on by Linn State Technical College to benefit the Daniel Mittenburg Scholarship fund, and lots of other surprises for attendees.
The event will go from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is all free to Osage County residents.

Janelle works part time as a checker, always making sure each customer is taken care of quickly and efficiently. Janelle is very dependable, pleasant and is a hard worker. Outstanding Employee, Robert CroweRobert Crowe, who works in the Bakery Department at Thriftway, has been awarded a certificate of merit for being an outstanding employee.

Robert is a very dependable, pleasant, hard-working team member at Thriftway. He is always willing and ready to help anyone who needs it.

He and his wife, Gracy, live in Linn. They have five children, three step children, eleven grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. He has one daughter deceased. Robert enjoys hunting, fishing and restoring old vehicles.

Wreath Refreshing

Wreath Refreshing Event: Success!
Thriftway’s Floral Department held a Wreath Refreshing event on December 1st, encouraging customers to bring in their old, out-dated wreaths. Nancy and Tammi replaced old bows and ribbons, added new baubles
and beads, and made them shine like new.
It was lots of fun!

Buck-A-Bone Contest Winners!

Bruce Bax, Manager of the Meat Department at Thriftway Supermarket, and Mike Turner, meat cutting specialist at Thriftway, show the first place plaque awarded for the smoked ribs Bruce and Mike smoked in Thriftway’s new smoker. The Buck-A-Bone contest they entered was held April 17th at Jaycee Fairgrounds in Jefferson City. There were around 37 participants in the blind judging contest. All proceeds from the contest, which was approximately $17,000, went to charity.
